Stained fur

Why does stained fur occur?

Stained fur - whether it’s tear stains, beard stains, or paw stains - often appears as reddish-brown marks on lighter-coloured coats. These stains are usually caused by a pigment called porphyrin, which is found in saliva and tears. Dogs that drool or tear a lot are most prone, especially breeds like Poodles, Maltese, and Bulldogs.

While staining is mostly a cosmetic issue, it can sometimes signal underlying irritation or infection if not kept in check. Regular, gentle cleansing of stained areas is the best defence, keeping fur bright and healthy without causing additional irritation to sensitive areas like around the eyes or mouth.

How Fur Love helps

Unsightly stains around your dog’s eyes, mouth, or paws can be frustrating, but Fur Love offers a simple way to keep things fresh. The Micellar Cleansing Spritz, used with our Reusable Cotton Pads, gently wipes away build-up and helps prevent further discolouration. Packed with cucumber, aloe, and coconut extracts, it soothes sensitive areas while cleansing effectively.

For deeper stains on paws or faces, pair with the Paw & Body Soak. This blend of coconut extracts and mild cleansing agents refreshes and neutralises, making your dog look (and feel) cleaner and brighter with regular use.
