Real routines, real results - Nova & Remy
Every dog is different - their lifestyle, their coat, their skin, and the way they're cared for day to day. These stories are a look into real routines, shared by dog parents who are navigating everything from muddy paws to weekly baths and ongoing skin care. Honest, practical, and lived, because good dog care is never one-size-fits-all.
Meet Nova & Remy
Nova is a seven-year-old Collie-Huntaway-Lab mix with the kind of quiet intelligence that means she's always paying attention. She's placid, busy in the best way, and happiest when there's somewhere to go, like for a walk or a swim. Remy is three, a Miniature Dachshund who arrived and promptly decided she was in charge. She's bossy, larger than life, and an excellent cuddler. She wears the pants at home, but she adores her big sister.
They live in Northland, where the landscape does a lot of the living for them. Days are built around naps, training, snuggles, and walks. In summer, Nova and Remy swim in the rivers, lakes, and beaches that make Northland what it is.
A Routine Built Around Real Life
Nova was recently diagnosed with stage 1 IVDD, which has reshaped her days. Her routine now includes physiotherapy, carefully managed recovery walks, and more rest than she'd choose for herself. Brain games fill the gaps. Her dog mum pays close attention.
Remy, meanwhile, approaches long grass with complete confidence and no regard for the consequences. Her belly itches after paddock runs. She does it anyway.
It was the itchiness on Remy's belly and Nova's dryness that led their dog mum to start looking more carefully at what she was using. She wanted natural ingredients, something that genuinely helped, and products that smelled good enough that the girls would cooperate.
Managing Dryness and Seasonal Sensitivity
Nova and Remy experience dryness and itchiness mainly in spring and winter. Nova's tends to show up in her armpits. Remy's is triggered by grass and environmental contact along her belly.
Before Fur Love, their coats were a little dryer and the post-walk itch was a regular occurrence. Managing it meant finding something consistent enough to actually make a difference over time.
Building a Routine That Works
Bath time means shampoo followed by the conditioning mask which is a full cleanse and moisture replenishment in one session. Every evening after walks, the Micellar Cleansing Spritz goes onto their paws. For Remy, it also goes along her belly, which keeps the post-grass reaction at bay. Once a week, the dry oil gets worked through their coats before bed. On dry patches, mainly Nova's armpits, it's applied as needed between wash days.
Pedicure days are their own small ritual. Paw soak first, then the nail grinder, then balm to finish. Soft, hydrated, smooth paws. Every time.
Consistency Over Time
Nova and Remy's coats get remarked on everywhere they go, but there's something else worth mentioning. Their dog mum has hayfever. For years, walking dogs through grass meant paying for it later. Since the Micellar Cleansing Spritz became a nightly habit, she's noticed that the allergens transferring from their coats no longer trigger her own symptoms. She didn't buy it for herself. It's become one of the things she'd never go without.
A Thoughtful Approach to Care
Caring for two dogs with different needs - one managing a health diagnosis, one with a talent for finding every patch of long grass in Northland - means the routine has to be flexible and consistent at the same time.
What makes it work isn't complexity. It's showing up with the right products, regularly. Nova and Remy's skin and coats reflect that. And they've never once objected to being pampered.
